What Is A Tool Changer
Module?
A tool changer is a unit that allows a robot to perform
more than one function without the need for human intervention to change the
tooling. Two RISTEC tool changers are shown below.
The animation below depicts a robot picking up two
different tools by using one robot module and two tool
modules. The sequence is described below.
- One half of the unit, known as the "robot
module", is attached to your robot.
- The other half, known as the "tool module",
is attached to your tooling. You will need one tool module for
each tool you wish to use.
- When the robot module is brought into contact with the
appropriate tool module, a signal is sent to your controller and the two
modules are "locked" together by the use of air pressure.
- When you are done using a particular tool, the robot is
sent another signal and the two modules are "unlocked", allowing
the robot to go pick up the next tool.
