Tool Changer Module locking mechanism cross sectional view.
The
following color code applies to each of these steps:

Step 1
The tool changer
robot module is in the unlocked position (light blue locking piston
is retracted) and ready to couple with the tool half (green). Notice the
locking piston cannot engage forward unless the tool module is present due
to the yellow ball retainer restricting movement of the locking balls. This
unique feature allows the optional lock sensor to not only sense the
locking piston is forward but also the tool half is present (i.e. it is
impossible for the piston to travel forward unless the tool half is
present and has pushed the yellow ball retainer back). |
