| There is a new modular
line of environment specific robotic tool changers.
Specialized environments include machining,
grinding, finishing and painting applications. Units can be pneumatically
purged to resist infiltration of fluids and debris into the unit. All
components, both internal and external, are corrosion resistant, the
company says.
The tool changer with internal utilities is
small, with a height of 1.18" (30 mm), a working diameter of
2.8" (71 mm) and weighs 7 oz (0.2 kg) fully equipped yet has payload
capacities up to 45 lbs (20 kg).
The tool changer is comprised of two mating
halves, the robot module and the tool module. The robot module mounts
directly to any new or existing Adept robots and adapts to other small to
midsize robots as well as custom assembly machines.
The mating tool modules are available in
two styles; one allows continuation of user utilities directly into an end
effector while the other distributes user air and electrical lines
externally via pneumatic fittings and electrical connectors.
Utility sub-modules located within the
robot module receive user electrical and pneumatic utilities directly from
within the robot’s quill. Up to 50 3-amp user electrical contacts and up
to 12 user pneumatic ports can be used simultaneously. A wide selection of
electrical and pneumatic sub-modules is available.
Four independent failsafe features,
including optional lock sensing, ensure proper coupling and protect
against involuntary tool release in the event of a failure of the robot's
control systems.
